Advancing Agriculture Through Innovation

Rallis’ commitment to sustainable and science-driven agriculture is led by its two premier research centres – the Rallis Innovation Chemistry Hub (RICH) and the Agri-Biotech R&D Centre. Together, they drive breakthroughs in crop care, nutrition, and biotechnology. From pioneering eco-friendly formulations to cutting-edge gene editing, Rallis’ R&D ecosystem fuels innovation to empower farmers and improve agricultural outcomes worldwide.

Rallis Innovation Chemistry Hub (RICH)

Located in the Peenya Industrial Area, RICH is a state-of-the-art, multi-storied laboratory spanning 30,000 square feet. Recognized by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), it serves as the nucleus for Rallis' crop care research and development.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Formulation Development: Creation of innovative premix formulations, including Oil Dispersion (OD), Capsule Suspension (CS), Suspo-emulsions (SE), Nano-emulsions, and ZC, utilizing water and environmentally friendly solvents to enhance bio-efficacy.
  • Innovative Product Development: Collaboration with strategic partners and farmer groups to develop solutions such as:
    • Effective management of major fungal diseases in rice, fruits, and vegetables.
    • First-ever combinations of insecticide and fungicide for rice and vegetables.
    • Granular fungicides for rice disease control.
  • Process Chemistry: Development and optimization of processes for new agrochemicals, off-patented molecules, and chemical intermediates, including support for contract manufacturing projects.
  • Crop Nutrition Research: Development of differentiated products in specialty fertilizers, such as organic fertilizers, bio-fertilizers, micronutrients, water-soluble fertilizers, bio-stimulants, and bio-pesticides, aiming to enhance yields and promote sustainable farming.
  • Quality Control: Provision of analytical support for quality control to Rallis' domestic product development teams and manufacturing units, utilizing sophisticated facilities and a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Regulatory Approvals: Generation of country-specific regulatory data, leading to over 200 product registrations worldwide, and implementation of product stewardship programs.
  • Technology Transfer: Evaluation and scale-up of proposed technologies and processes for commercial launch, bridging R&D and manufacturing.

RICH has been instrumental in Rallis introducing new molecules, formulations, and pre-mixtures, contributing significantly to the company's contract manufacturing capabilities.

Rallis Agri-Biotech R&D Centre

Situated in Bengaluru, this center focuses on cutting-edge agricultural biotechnology research, employing both transgenic and non-transgenic approaches to address agricultural challenges.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Trait Development: Development of insect resistance (IR), herbicide tolerance (HT), and drought tolerance traits in crops like cotton and maize.
  • Molecular Breeding: Utilization of molecular marker tools and machine learning algorithms for genomic selection, aiding in the development of superior hybrids with improved plant growth, nutrition, and disease and pest tolerance.
  • Gene Editing: Application of gene editing technologies for trait improvement, enhancing the company's seed portfolio.
  • Regulatory Studies: Preparation for biosafety studies and field trials for IR and HT traits, pending regulatory approvals.

The Agri-Biotech R&D Centre's efforts have led to the development of drought-resilient hybrids and solutions to tackle diseases like neck blast in paddy, contributing to Rallis' mission of promoting sustainable agriculture.
