6/23/02: Raceway Park, NJ
(Moto 1) +25B: 12th
Well, this was my first race of the 2002 season. I have been extremely busy with my new house and have not been able to devote as much time as I would like to racing. I have practiced a start since last year. My first start of the year and I almost grabbed the holeshot. I was in second or third after the first few corners. I was happy about that. I defintely took it easy and didn't force anything. I know I'm not in race shape and didn't ride particularly well. I finished in 12th for the first moto of the year and qualified for moto #2.
(Moto 2) +25B: 20th
Moto #2 was a final between 2 qualifiers. There should have been 40 guys at the gate, but only 24 showed. I guess it was too hot for people. I was happy that I was 1 of them. I got another good start. I was going well until about halfway down the start. I had to back off for a second because I was hooking up to well and began to wheelie. I was still in the top 10 coming out of the first turn. I rode really conservative and I deinitely got tired. I didn't want the bike to ride me all this weekend so I rode as hard as I could while still riding my my own race. I am not happy with my results, but I am happy with my starts, bike and patience. I look to keep progressing to where I can ride to the best of my ability for the whole race.
Overall: 20th

6/29/02: Doublin Gap, PA
(Moto 1) +25B: 16th
Last place start. In my defense, I didn't pack down my start because I had no help at the gate and I had a bad pick. In reality, I didn't want to be upfront anyway. I just wanted to put in some good rides this weekend and get home safe. This was the track where I really messed up my knee and I wasn't in a "go for it" frame of mind. I just want to ride better each week. Hopefully soon I will belong up front, but now I don't. I rode OK and worked on riding the bike.

6/30/02: Doublin Gap, PA
(Moto 1) 250B: 17th
This was my first race in 250B. It was the first moto of the day and I had a long ride home so I figured I'd give it a shot. My start was bad again. I rode pretty well. I continued to work on things and I felt more comfortable today. I was watching lines of the faster guys and trying to see what they were doing. Sometimes when I see it in person it just clicks. Man, some of these guys are really fast! I rode hard all weekend while staying in control. My goals are to progress each week and work on my conditioning. I feel I moved forward this weekend both physically and mentally.
(Moto 2) 250B: 15th
Bad start again. Nothing new this weekend. I moved up past some guys in this moto though. I was riding pretty well too. I slipped out in one section and fell and a few guys went by. All in all a good moto.
Overall: 16th

7/7/02: Raceway Park, NJ
(Moto 1) 250B: 14th
Last place start again. No execuses this time. I just messed up. I rode pretty well though. I definitely need to get used to the sand again. I just get my butt kicked. I rode really hard and well on Friday on a different style track. I was excited about Sunday, but I just didn't have the same energy and aggression. The constant bumps just killed me. I am going to practice on sand this week and more from now on. I should be up to speed and stamina in about a month. So far I have been progressing, so that's a positive. I will keep working. I was actually in 13th at the end of the moto. I had been trying to pass 12th, which I caught up to with 1 lap to go. I was trying to get around him by taking different lines, but they weren't the good lines. I had a guy behind me during this time and in the last corner I tried to make a pass, but I got passed. I wasn't happy about that, but I was being aggressive and it just didn't work out this time.
(Moto 2) 250B: 12th
What is it with last place starts? After that it was all down hill. I had no energy. I did 3 practice seesions in the morning and my first moto about 3 hours later. I am hoping that contributed to my lack of energy, but who knows. I am doing all the right things and they will start to pay off soon. I'll just keep keepin' on.
Overall: 12th

8/31/02: Raceway Park, NJ
(Moto 1) +25C: 9th
I decided to go back to the "C" class to work my way back into shape. I haven't been riding as much as I would like this year because of time spent on my new house. I haven't been very competitive in the "B" class. Since I was bumped up while I was hurt with my knee injury the district let me move back to "C". I wanted to regain some confidence and move up to "B" not coming of an injury. I got the holeshot, but slid out a little in the first turn. I was in 6th for most of the moto. 5th was right in front of me most of the way. I was definitely not in shape. I was tired after 2 laps and I wasn't even pushing hard. I wanted to take it easy and ease back into racing. 2 Turns from the finish I stalled my bike and 2 guys got around. I finished in 9th. I know I am alot better than 9th, but I need stamina and practice in rutted turns. I'll be up to speed soon.
(Moto 2) +25C: DNF
I seem to get the holeshot when I am confident. After my moto 1 results I knew I couldn't go the pace of the leaders. I started where I finished in the 1st moto, around 9th. After a few turns there was a straightaway with a big kicker. I hit it and somehow my right foot got ripped of the peg and I twisted my ankle pretty bad. I don't think it anything too serious, but I am seeing my orthopedist soon anyway and I will have it checked then. I DNF'd that moto and I didn't go to check my overall because I wasn't walking too well.

Overall for 2002
This year didn't go as planned. I didn't have the time or money I thought I would have. I was never able to be consistent with practice and getting in shape. I moved down in class for 2003. I am hoping this will inspire me. I will have more time to practice next year as well. As for the money, I'll find a way. I would like to go to Loretta's next year as well. I am training now for 2003. I look forward to next year.
