2/20/00: Budds Creek, MD
(Moto 1) +25B: DNF
I went to Budds Creek to get some experience on the track and that's about all that went well. Practice was good. I felt comfortable and rode a lot. Too much, as it turns out. I haven't ridden much this winter because of the weather and it showed. I didn't prepare my gate very well and I am not used to starting on cement. I learned why gate prep is crucial on cement as I slid out of my gate. I rode ok, but I didn't finish the race because my 250C moto was right after and I had to get back to the starting gate.
(Moto 2) +25B: DNF
I finally got a good start. I prepared my spot well. I didn't get a great jump, but I was in 6th. They were running 2 classes together so there were more than the 8 riders in my class. Probably about 30 guys judging by the amount of guys that passed me. Right in the first turn when I went to grab the brakes my hands cramped. I couldn't straighten my finger to grab the front brake. The time off was definitely affecting me so I used the moto as more practice.

(Moto 1) 250C: 22nd
By the time I got back from my +25B moto all the gates were taken. They were running stagger starts and guys in the second stagger took up the rest of the open gates. Not knowing who was in which moto, including myself for that matter, I lined up behind someone I knew was in my class. When the gate dropped he took off, so I took off after him. Well that was a horrible start, but I was here to get track time. So that's what I used it for.
(Moto 2) 250C: 20th
This time I had someone hold a gate for me. I got a great start this time. I was in 3rd and my hands cramped again. I just backed it off again and found some good lines in the off-camber sections. I was pretty disappointed in my results, but I understand that I am not in riding shape. I'll be in riding shape soon. Some good things came out of this trip though. I had good starts (when I prepared my gate), I felt comfortable on the track (when I wasn't cramping), I had fun and I didn't get tired. I guess all that exercise bike riding kept my stamina up. When the snow melts, the days get longer and I get some seat time I'll get some good practice in before I go to the races.

2/27/00: Budds Creek, MD
(Moto 1) Unl C: 15th
I got a great jump out of the gate, but as I went to put my foot back on the peg I stepped on my rear brake. I rode hard all day today. I felt better than last week. My riding muscles are starting to come back. I passed some people and it was a good ride.
(Moto 2) Unl C: 14th
My first holeshot! I went in a little too hot and when I got on the brakes I slid out enough to blow the first turn. My starts are there though. The first couple of turn at Budds are crucial for a good start. I have learned that. At any other track I've raced at, once you get a good position in the first turn you can relax a little. That is not the case here. I was still in 4th after the second turn and then got passed by 4 guys going down the hill. I think I figured since I got the holeshot people would just stay behind me. I'll know better next time. That's why I came in the first place. I wanted to get in shape and get comfortable with the track so that when I go back for Lorretta's qualifying (hopefully) I'll feel right at home. I got a little tired and rode smart.

(Moto 1) 250C: ?
I got another good jump out of the gate. I got a good drive and was going well. Then my back end started sliding out. The guy to my left got in front of me in the first corner. I was in about 6th going down the hill and I got bumped from behind as I was turning. We both went down. I got up in last and rode hard. I passed some guys and on the third lap I slid out going up the hill by the mechanic's area. I kept the bike running, but my hand cramped and I was unable to let the clutch out. I stalled the bike and got going after I gathered myself. I don't know how I finished because when I went to get my results at the end of the day they were updating them and I had a long ride home. I knew I didn't do well results wise, so I didn't wait around.
(Moto 2) 250C: ?
I didn't get a good jump out of the gate for the first time today. I got piched off down the start. I was definitely not aggressive enough. I was tired and my minset was not where it needs to be. I did ride as hard as could. In a few weeks I'll be in riding shape and then I'll know where I really stand. I don't know how I finished because when I went to get my results at the end of the day they were updating them and I had a long ride home. I knew I didn't do well results wise, so I didn't wait around. One thing I must say is that I rode my bike today instead of my bike riding me.

3/19/00: Raceway Park, NJ
(Moto 1) 250C: 8th
I got a great jump out of the gate, but I have been riding on hard pack stuff and didn't realize my tire was worn down too much for a sand start. I was in the back of the pack because I didn't hookup. I rode hard and worked my way up to 8th in the shortened 3 lap race. I was happy with my ride, but my endurance is still down. It will come back as I get more rinding time.
(Moto 2) 250C: 6th
I got a better start, but still didn't hook up great. I already got a new tire for next week so I can get a good start. I was in 12th after the first couple of turns. I worked my way up to seventh after the first lap. On the second lap 4th and 5th were right in front of me, but, I couldn't get around them. I was getting tired and just rode a well as I could.
Overall: 7th Place

(Moto 1) +25B: 33rd
My gate position was horrible, but I still managed a mid pack start. In the back section there was a rider down in the whoops, but I didn't see him until it was too late. I crashed into him and screwed up my front tire alignment. I tried to ride, but the front end was too out of line.
(Moto 2) +25B: 23rd
I got my best start of the day. I didn't prepare my gate or anything. I was in the top 10, but after the staircase my throttle hand cramped up and there was no way I could push it. I couldn't grab the front brake. I rode hard when I could, but by the time I loosened up everybody was gone.

(Moto 1) +25B: 26th
My gate position was horrible and the start wasn't much better. I rode as hard as a could. I rode pretty well and had fun.
(Moto 2) +25B: 32nd
I got a better start. I would say top 15. I was tired and wanted to try a save some energy for my 250C moto. I kept the pace for 2 laps with the guy who won the 250C class all the time last year and I got tired. Each week I ride harder longer, but I am still trying to ride myself into shape.
Overall: 28th

(Moto 1) 250C: 4th
I got a good start. I would say top ten. I rode pretty well, but I was a little tired from the +25B moto. I rode as hard as I could. The leader was about 10 seconds in front of me. With a better start and more importantly more riding stamina, I know that I have the speed to win motos. I get stronger each week, but I need to have the same speed at the end that I have at the start.
(Moto 2) 250C: 11th
I got tangled with the rider next to me right out of the gate. I didn't get such a great start. I was definitely feeling less than stellar. It was the last moto of the day. The track was rough, I was tired and I had nothing left by the end of the moto. I just ride as hard as I can knowing that each time I ride and get tired that I will be in better shape the next time I race. I can wait for daylight savings so I can start practicing during the week.

4/2/00: Broome Tioga, NY
(Moto 1) 250C: 14th
It was a Loretta qualifier this weekend. The weather was horrible. It was raining all day. I slid right off the start and was in the back off the start. I crashed after the first turn and was in last place. I rode very well, but the crash was too much to come back from in 4 laps. I finished in 11th as far as Loretta's went. I knew it couldn't get any worse in the second moto and I should be able to qualify.
(Moto 2) 250C: DNR
Unfortunately the scorers said they couldn't read the number plates and they cancelled the second set of motos. Let's just say I wasn't very happy about that. I am going to try and qualify again this week.

4/9/00: Walden, NY
(Moto 1) +25B: 8th
I missed practice because they track website had the wrong directions. I never raced there before so the first time I rode the track was in the race. The moto was 3 laps due to the snow and mud. I knew all I had to due was finish the race to qualify for the Regional for Loretta's. The start was a mess, but I kept it upright. I was in 3rd or 4th when I crashed on the second lap. My bike wasn't running well and I just wanted to finish to qualify. So I did.

Well the weather got worse. This moto was changed to 1 lap. All I had to do was finish to qualify again. That's all I tried to do.

4/16/00: Doublin Gap, PA
(Moto 1) 250C: DNF
I had a great start. I was in the top 5 and after the first couple of turns I was in 2nd. I stayed in 2nd for a lap and a half and then I started getting tired. I really didn't ride for 3 weeks even though I raced every weekend. Both weekends were cut short due to the weather. I haven't been able to practice at all either because of the daylight and my practice spot being shut down. So I have been racing every weekend with no practice. I trained during the week, but my riding muscles were not in shape. Around the 3rd lap I came off a small drop-off jump and landed hard. The jump isn't even big, but it had been bottoming out my suspension everytime. This time when my suspension bottomed, so did my knee. I was wearing a Cti, but that didn't help support it enough to stop it from popping out. I was trying to wait to get surgery to recontruct my ACL (which I injured last year) until after Loretta's (I just qualified for the regional the week before). I have decided to get the surgery now before I further injure my knee and lose more time. The doctor said I won't be able to ride for 4 months. I am very disappointed because I didn't even have a chance to get into riding shape for the season and that's why this happened. I will still be going to the races to watch and hang out with my friends, but it is going to be hard not being able to race. I am going to rehab my knee as well and as fast as I can. I should be able to ride again in September. Maybe I can get into shape to race some at the end of the year.

I was happy with the way things were going, but not happy with the way things ended. I hope to be 100% for next year.
